Awarded the
Sustainability Prize

Our climate-friendly menus were awarded the Sustainability Prize by the IHK Aachen.

As a manufacturer of pet food with a close connection to our homeland, we have set ourselves the goal of combining animal welfare and environmental protection. In addition to acting sustainably in the production process, we go one step further:

We want to produce sustainable and climate-friendly feed
and become a pioneer for sustainable action

We are convinced that quality and sustainability are closely linked and do not describe a stage of development, but rather a process. That's why we work every day to improve our products for your and our dogs.

Three good reasons for more vegetables in your feed:

1. More vegetables conserve resources and save CO2

An increased proportion of regional vegetables such as peas, potatoes or carrots reduces the proportion of meat. This means that fewer greenhouse gases such as CO2 or methane are emitted. Important resources such as water are also conserved, as less water is used to grow vegetables than to raise animals.

2. Secondary plant substances contribute to a healthier diet

Secondary plant substances are not essential for the survival of plants themselves, but they have positive properties for our four-legged friends. These are colors, fragrances and flavorings that occur naturally in plants. This includes, for example, beta-carotene, which occurs naturally in carrots and supports cell structure and immune defense.

3. Vitamins strengthen the immune system and ensure a healthy metabolism

Peas, carrots and the like are full of healthy vitamins, minerals and fiber that can support the health of your furry friend. Peas in particular are rich in fiber and support intestinal function. But potatoes also provide a lot of proteins and carbohydrates and are therefore a high-quality source of energy. They are also easy to digest and are gentle on the stomach as they protect the stomach lining.

The climate-friendly varieties with more vegetables are made from high-quality raw materials, almost exclusively from German farms. The high vegetable content ensures quick, gentle digestion and strengthens the immune system with additional vitamins. Oriented to the natural needs of dogs, the “Beef & Vegetables” and “Poultry & Vegetables” varieties ensure a healthy and balanced diet.

With fresh meat and a vegetable content of 30 percent, these varieties provide important vitamins and fiber that your four-legged friend needs for a long, healthy life. The grain-free recipes are based on the natural diet of dogs and contain only functional ingredients from nature.

The menus are available in 400g and 800g.

Three good reasons for insects in food:

1. Hypoallergenic food for sensitive dogs

Insect food is an excellent alternative for dogs with allergies or food intolerances. Our Mono Insect variety in particular is easy to digest and hypoallergenic. That's why it's particularly suitable for an exclusion diet: Since your dog probably hasn't come into contact with food made from insects, our insect varieties can help you identify allergies.

2. sustainable alternative to beef, chicken and co.

Raising black soldier fly larvae protects the environment compared to conventional fattening animals: they use less water and at the same time produce significantly less CO2 and other greenhouse gases. That's why our varieties with insects are perfect if you want to reduce your dog's ecological paw print.

3. Species-appropriate rearing without traditional “slaughtering”

The larvae of the black soldier fly are not slaughtered but harvested. This is an important difference because, unlike mammals, insects have a different sense of pain. They are therefore dried gently and in an animal-friendly manner without causing any pain.

Insects are an extraordinary source of proteins and nutrients - and the super food of the future! The larvae of the black soldier fly in particular offer your dog plenty of minerals such as iron, zinc and calcium and thus promote your four-legged friend's metabolism.

They are also easy to digest and particularly suitable for dogs with food intolerances. Thanks to valuable fatty acids, they ensure healthy skin and a shiny coat. Our varieties with 30 percent insects or our Mono Insect variant offer your furry friend a wide range of essential amino acids and also have a minimal ecological footprint.

The sustainable, species-appropriate keeping of black soldier flies conserves resources and releases few greenhouse gases. They form a 100 percent natural protein source that has not been altered through the use of antibiotics or genetic modifications. A natural super food for a healthy and balanced diet.

Black soldier fly larvae

Why black soldier fly of all things?

Black soldier flies, also Hermetia Illucens , are real super flies. They originally come from the subtropical regions of America and cannot survive here in Germany due to our temperate climate. Their life cycle is about six weeks, making them more time-efficient to breed compared to beef or pigs.

The larvae of the black soldier fly are used in MAC 's menus. These grow quickly: within a few weeks the larvae eat their fill and store a lot of protein and fat. They really eat everything, because the larvae have the ability to convert any organic residue into valuable protein and can therefore also recycle food waste. At the same time, compared to conventional protein sources, significantly less food is needed to raise large numbers of larvae. Once the larvae have eaten their fill, they are harvested. In contrast to mammals, black soldier flies are invertebrates that have a different sense of pain. The insects therefore feel no pain during the harvesting process and are dried gently and in an animal-friendly manner.

The larvae are the perfect alternative as animal food: they are full of important minerals, proteins and high-quality fatty acids. In addition to zinc and iron, they also provide calcium and vitamin B1.

why is this more climate-friendly?

Since rearing black soldier flies does not require fertile arable land, important resources are conserved here: the larvae can be bred in very small areas. In addition, their water consumption is up to 15,000 times lower compared to raising conventional fattening animals. But that's not all: emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases are also up to a hundred times lower. In addition, by-products can be used as fertilizer in agriculture, for example.

The larvae are also unbeatable when it comes to the feed-meat ratio, as one kilogram of larvae can be bred from around 1.5 kilograms of feed. The black soldier fly larva is a true SUPER FOOD and a more climate-friendly, sustainable alternative to conventional protein sources.
