This year, the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) awarded a sustainability award to companies from the region for the first time this year and honored the Eifel family business Pro Pet Koller for their sustainable innovations.
Pro Pet Koller has been committed to environmental protection for years with sustainable projects: As a manufacturer of pet food with a close connection to its homeland, the family company has set itself the goal of combining animal welfare and environmental protection.
In addition to electricity from its own photovoltaic system, raw materials from the region and recyclable packaging, Pro Pet would like to achieve this goal particularly through environmentally friendly food: The climate-friendly menus from the MAC 's brand bring sustainable food with more vegetables and insects into the households of pet owners.
Insects are an exceptional source of proteins and nutrients: the larvae of the black soldier fly in particular provide dogs with plenty of minerals and promote metabolism. In addition, they leave a minimal ecological footprint thanks to their environmentally friendly and species-appropriate rearing. They form a 100 percent natural protein source that has not been altered through the use of antibiotics or genetic modifications.
“Pioneer for sustainable action”
The IHK Aachen honors this great commitment with a prize for sustainable business: With numerous projects for environmental protection and, not least, sustainable, climate-friendly products, Pro Pet a pioneer for environmentally conscious action in the region, explained the jury at the award ceremony last Tuesday. “The award-winning projects are pioneers for sustainable action in the region and motivate others to follow them,” explained Gisela Kohl-Vogel, President of the IHK Aachen.
A total of 28 companies from the districts of Aachen, Düren, Heinsberg and Euskirchen applied for the sustainability award, which was awarded for the first time. At the award ceremony in the IHK building, three companies out of twelve finalists were honored with the award by an expert jury, including Pro Pet . In addition, people could vote for the public prize for a week.
Motivation for future innovations
Managing director Michael Koller accepted the jury's award with great joy: "This award means a lot to us and illustrates the hard work of our employees that goes into the development and innovation of our products." The trophy, which, among other things, is made of stone of the Aachen Cathedral and logged Douglas fir wood from the Eifel National Park is no reason for him to rest: “With the help of this award, we would like to continue to bring more sustainable products and innovations to people in the future and promote environmentally conscious behavior.”
